Christmas 2016 officially kicks off this Friday, 18 November with a fun-filled musical extravaganza at Pier Approach thanks to Bournemouth’s Coastal Business Improvement District (BID) – starting with a pre-event performance at 6.15pm before the main show at 6.30pm.

The pre-event performance starts at 6.15pm and stars children from SBLAS (Shining Bright Like a Star) Performing Arts School singing Christmas songs and well-known covers.

From 6.30pm, those charming Ugly Sisters, David Ball and Michael Chance – stars of this year’s Bournemouth Pavilion pantomime, Cinderella – will be welcoming the crowds.

The event will also feature a performance from 2015 X Factor finalist, Max Stone, who will be singing a number of seasonal classics as well as his own material.

At around 7.15pm, there will be an appearance from the Mayor of Bournemouth who, along with Max and the Ugly Sisters, will begin the countdown to a light show and closing beach firework display to the west of the pier.

Stefan Krause, Coastal BID Manager, enthused: “The seafront businesses have rallied up in partnership with the Coastal BID and Bournemouth Tourism to celebrate the beginning of the festive season by expanding the Christmas experience from the town centre and coastal villages to the rejuvenated Pier Approach.”

From dusk on Friday, residents and visitors to Bournemouth will be able to enjoy an illuminated stroll to and from Pier Approach as the resort’s Grade II listed Victorian gardens twinkle and glow with fairy light wraps on selected trees, coloured uplighters among the flora and fauna and snowflake projections along the walkways. The Christmas offer continues in the gardens and town centre until 3 January 2017 thanks to Bournemouth’s Town Centre BID.

Steve Hughes, Town Centre BID Manager, said: “We have worked really hard with our partners to put on a Christmas that has something for everyone – illuminated gardens, huge outdoor ice-rink, popular Snow Globe and for the first time a Nutcracker Trail around the town. With our great shops, bars, restaurants and attractions, Bournemouth really is the place to be this Christmas.”
