“Love Your Local Market – Boscombe encourages locals to visit Bournemouth’s only regular fresh food market!”
Boscombe market is joining in on the campaign, ‘Love Your Local Market’ (LYLM), which is a national initiative which celebrates market culture in the UK in May and is inviting locals to ‘come visit and enjoy the only regular fresh food market in Bournemouth’.
Having been in existence since 1992, Boscombe Market has seen a real change in its make up over the years. The thriving, twice weekly market takes place on Thursdays and Saturdays from 9am – 5pm and boasts a huge variety of fresh products which vary weekly, depending on the seasonal food farmer’s harvest.
The bustling market regularly welcomes over 20 long standing traders and in excess of 40 stalls each week. It is celebrated for its increasingly wide range of exotic fruits and vegetables, fish and meat and its selection of ‘world cuisine’ available which can change from week to week – be tempted by mouth-watering authentic thai dishes, paninis, Caribbean jerk chicken and goat curry or simple British favourites.
Boscombe Centre Manager, Carol Butler advised, “Many stall holders know their regular customers by name and shoppers look forward to the market, not just because of the incredible selection of fresh produce and bargains available, but also because of the friendly banter that is guaranteed. It is a real community here.”
LYLM takes place this year from 14th May – 5th June, an extended period to promote the town’s only weekly market to the vast number of visitors attending the Wheels Festival.

Last year we helped to significantly improve its appearance by investing in new gazebos for stall holders and it’s great to see this market thriving and continuing to expand. Markets are a vital part of our nation’s high streets and town centres and offer so much more than just a shopping experience. We are keen to celebrate the uniqueness and positivity of Boscombe Market. It’s very encouraging to see that footfall figures for Boscombe are up 1.5 % year on year too. ”

The market caters for a very diverse population and enjoys bringing quality British and international produce to the local community.”
