As you may know, Wessex Water have been repairing the Bournemouth coastal interceptor sewer (CIS) – a sewer that is 18 metres below Percy Road and takes flows to Holdenhurst sewage treatment works, in Bournemouth.

A temporary overland pipe, which runs from an access point in Boscombe Chine Gardens, via Boscombe Overcliff to Fisherman’s Walk, near Montague Road, has been in place to maintain sewerage services for customers.

Work ahead of schedule
Engineers have been working extended hours, including weekends, to complete the work as quickly as possible.

The first phase of work inside the sewer has been completed earlier than planned and work is ahead of schedule.  We will now start on the second phase of work within the sewer, which involves preventing ingress of sand and groundwater.

It is expected that the sewer will be back in use next month and work will start on dismantling the overland pipe.  Engineers will then carry out repairs to Percy Road itself, which has been closed due to ground subsidence and damage to the road surface.
