The force was strong with over 4,000 Star Wars fans joining Bournemouth’s inaugural Star Wars Appreciation Day hosted by the Sovereign Shopping Centre in Boscombe, in association with Bournemouth Coastal BID, BEAF and the brilliant Dorset Troopers.
Hundreds of families followed the call for Jedi Younglings to join the Jedi Academy with some 250 children received accreditation. Everyone enjoyed light sabre demonstrations from a real life Jedi and Princess Leia before taking part in a battle to show off their new skills, after which they were enrolled in Boscombe’s very own Jedi Academy.
The action packed ‘May the 4th be with you’ on Saturday 4th May, as part of
www.b-e-a-f.co.uk, saw visitors gathering to see Dorset Troopers marching through the Sovereign Centre and into the precinct. There were plenty of photo opportunities for everyone as Darth Vader and his troops thrilled the crowds, giving all who attended a day to remember.
A special highlight was for all fans the appearance of Chewbacca with his friends, especially to remember actor Peter Mayhew who just passed away. Additional activities with Darth Vader selecting winner of best fancy dress, paper crafts to make your own Millennium Falcon and drawing your personal movie hero, resulted in long lasting memories.
The organisers promised that after this successful inauguration all fans should mark their diaries for next year’s bank holiday ‘May the 4th be with you’.
