Sadly, the firework displays planned for Bournemouth beach (21 August) have been cancelled.

Following a number of discussions in recent days, BCP Council made the decision because of a period of hot, dry weather that has significantly increased the risk of wildfires across the region.

A UK Government wildfire alert and a regional hosepipe ban are both still in place.

Although the fireworks are set off from out at sea, the council said it takes just one stray spark to start a fire, and that’s not a risk worth taking in these conditions.

The council also pointed to the pressure on emergency services, who are dealing with more call-outs during the dry conditions. Cancelling the fireworks frees them up to respond where they’re needed most.

We’re grateful for the public’s understanding as we all play our part in keeping our communities, open spaces and emergency services safe during these heightened conditions.

We’re working with Best of Bournemouth, DMB and BAHA to keep you posted on what happens next.
