The areas of Southbourne, Westbourne, Boscombe, Pokesdown and Tuckton are getting in the birthday spirit to help commemorate Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th birthday.  The businesses in these suburbs are celebrating by decking the main streets with Union Jack flags following funding from the Coastal Business Improvement District (BID).

Southbourne High Street is a mass over 80 Union Jack flags which have been installed from flag posts outside and above retail outlets on Southbourne Grove.

Boscombe precinct has an impressive display of 12 banners and 12 Union Jack flags across the Sovereign Centre Precinct and over 20 flags along Christchurch Street in Pokesdown.  Tuckton also has some 20 flags in the heart of its shopping area and Westbourne is proudly displaying a sea of flags in its Victorian arcade.

Paul Clark, Coastal BID Chairman and General Manager of the Bournemouth Hallmark West Cliff Hotel advised, “The Coastal BID were keen to make these colourful displays a reality and to really make the coastal villages stand out.  We are enjoying celebrating the fact that Bournemouth is a World class resort with an outstanding global reputation.  We are keen to invite visitors to the Town to come and explore Bournemouth further and wander out to the coastal villages and be amazed by the diverse and unique offerings that each village has.”

Continuing Paul added, “We are immensely proud to be able to showcase Southbourne, Westbourne, Boscombe, Pokesdown and Tuckton and to join in celebrating the nation’s heritage and pride in the year of HRH’s 90th birthday.  The different decorations in each village make a statement and grab much deserved attention to the shopping areas.”

Fiona McArthur, Chair of Southbourne on Sea Business Association enthused, “We are thrilled with the Union Jack flags in Southbourne.  They bring the whole area together and add colour and vibrancy to Southbourne Grove.  We are hugely grateful to the Coastal BID for their support.  The flags will compliment all the exciting events that are taking place in Southbourne over the coming weeks.”

Chair of Westbourne Business Association, Lia Martin advised, “The arcade looks fantastic and we are proud to be a part of the Queen’s birthday celebrations and showcasing the best of Westbourne businesses and showing our community spirit!”
