Invitation to the 70th Anniversary VE Day Beacon Ceremony – 8th May 9pm

In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of VE Day a chain of beacons will be lit around the UK. An invitation to attend this public ceremony has been extended to all Coastal BID businesses.
Bournemouth will be lighting a beacon on the cliff top at Fisherman’s Walk. This will be preceded by a welcome from The Mayor of Bournemouth and a trumpet call from The Salvation Army Boscombe Band, and a spoken national tribute. The beacon will be lit at 9.32pm to commemorate all those who fought and lived through WWII. Bournemouth’s Poet Laureate will read a poem written for the occasion, followed by songs from Bournemouth Symphony Chorus.
You are asked to arrive no later than 9.10pm to join the ceremony, which will be held at Fisherman’s Walk cliff top, adjacent to the cliff lift.
If you have any queries please contact Sandy Rysiok, 01202 451130 [email protected]
Other events taking place in Bournemouth on this historic day are the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the War Memorial at 11am, and the national two minutes silence at 3pm.
