“Thriving Westbourne is the place to be this summer!”
Summer has definitely arrived in Westbourne and the unique urban village is feeling the summer vibe and getting ready to celebrate its Summer Festival which takes place from Monday 8th – Sunday 14th August.
A packed programme of events and entertainment, taking place at a wide variety of venues over the week, is being promoted far and wide. The aim is to ensure that locals, tourists and visitors to the town are tempted to visit the thriving village which is full of unique, independent and quirky shops, bars and restaurants.
Promotion of the festival is being funded by the Coastal Business Improvement District (BID). Paul Clarke, Coastal BID Chairman and General Manager of the Bournemouth Hallmark West Cliff Hotel enthused, “We want people to come and discover what a vibrant place Westbourne is and a great place to come and shop, eat or relax with friends. There is so much going on over the week, ranging from a quiz nights, a Latin Garden Fiesta, menu tasters, lots of live music, DJ’s, BBQ’s, film nights and more! Camden Bar will be hosting ‘Camden Vintage’ on the Saturday and showcasing 50’s vintage clothing, accessories, vinyl and live music.
“On Saturday 13th August Westbourne will be hosting a Busking Bonanza competition which will take place at 3 different ‘busking stops’ in Westbourne, with 9 buskers competing to win cash prizes. We are urging people to come and enjoy the musical vibe and judge who they think should win.”
Paul advised, “There are free daily craft activities taking place at Westbourne Library for children and childrens’ films being shown at 11am each day at the Colosseum Cinema in the arcade, the UK’s smallest cinema.
“We have launched a ‘summer scene’ drawing competition for children with the opportunity to win one of two iPad Minis. The competition will run throughout August and there will be two age categories; 7 years and under and 8 – 13years. Competition entry forms can be picked up from Westbourne Post Office, downloaded from the Discover Westbourne web site at www.discoverwestbourne.co.uk/summer or drawings can simply be uploaded to the Facebook competition post www.facebook.com/discoverwestbourne We are hoping that the prizes will make a very nice summer holiday souvenir for our winners!”
