Installation of the Bournemouth Gardens and Seafront light installations, alongside the Central Christmas tree illuminations, creating a magical festive atmosphere that attracts huge audiences. These installations helped bring over 1 million visitors into the area during the Christmas period, significantly supporting hospitality, retail and leisure businesses.
Head of BID sits on the Destination Management Board
The Head of Coastal BID represents Central Bournemouth businesses on the Destination Management Board, ensuring local commercial interests are directly involved in shaping tourism strategy and decision-making.
Lobbying the council for hotel representation
We actively lobby the council to secure fair representation for hotels and accommodation providers, ensuring their needs are considered in planning, policy and tourism discussions.
Awards funded for hoteliers
Coastal BID pays for and facilitates industry awards for local hoteliers, helping businesses gain recognition, credibility and marketing value without additional financial burden.
Securing additional funding for the area
We identify funding opportunities, prepare applications and secure additional investment to support projects that benefit Central Bournemouth. Once funding is secured, Coastal BID manages the entire process, from appointing suppliers and overseeing delivery to advertising outcomes, ensuring projects are delivered effectively and deliver real value.
Identifying pockets of funding to increase spend
Through strong relationships and experience, we identify underused or available funding streams to maximise investment into Central Bournemouth beyond BID levy contributions.
Ensuring visitors, businesses and residents feel secure across the central seafront, gardens and town centre day and night.
Funding BID member access to the Century SIS crime-reporting app, giving businesses a simple and effective way to log incidents, share intelligence and strengthen local security collaboration.
Provision of Vanguard security teams from 5 December 2025 to 31 December 2025, and again throughout the summer season, ensuring a reassuring, visible presence across the seafront and hotel areas during busy periods.
Friday Fireworks by the Sea (every Friday)
Coastal BID supports the weekly Friday night fireworks programme, creating a safe, managed and family-friendly evening attraction that boosts footfall and the night-time economy throughout the summer season.
Town Watch meetings with police and night-time economy businesses
We attend regular Town Watch meetings with Dorset Police and local night-time economy businesses to address issues, share intelligence and improve safety across Central Bournemouth.
Safe Day & Night funding and initiatives
Coastal BID secures and allocates additional funding to support initiatives that improve safety, visibility and reassurance for visitors, workers and residents both during the day and into the evening.
Maintaining and improving the physical environment to ensure Central Bournemouth remains welcoming, attractive and enjoyable for all.
Painting and maintaining of the retaining wall on Approach Road, helping ensure a clean, fresh and well-presented arrival point for visitors travelling into the central area.
Artwork installation at the BIC Roundabout, adding colour, creativity and visual appeal to a high-traffic gateway into the town and seafront.
Removal of graffiti
Coastal BID actively supports the removal of graffiti across Central Bournemouth, helping keep streets, shopfronts and public areas clean, welcoming and well-maintained for residents, visitors and businesses.
Blue Flag beaches (funded by BID)
We fund the Blue Flag awards for Bournemouth’s beaches, ensuring internationally recognised standards for cleanliness, safety and environmental management, reinforcing Bournemouth’s reputation as a high-quality seaside destination. This funding includes application, surveys and managing the entire process.

Blue Flag status as a destination marker
The Blue Flag awards help position Central Bournemouth as a premium coastal destination, reinforcing trust, quality and environmental excellence for both domestic and international visitors.
Christmas markets and lights
Coastal BID delivers Christmas markets and festive lighting to create a distinctive seasonal offer that attracts visitors, supports local traders and animates the town centre during the quieter winter period.
Christmas lights and tree displays
Seasonal Christmas lights and tree installations are funded and coordinated by Coastal BID, enhancing the look and feel of the town centre and creating a festive, welcoming environment during the winter months. In 2025 over £60,000 was put towards funding this light display.
