Safer Day and Night

Enhancing safety, reducing crime and supporting a reassuring presence across the BID area.

Community Safety Accreditation Scheme, funding two dedicated officers on the streets to reduce crime and antisocial behaviour and provide visible support to businesses and the public.

Boscombe DISC, giving businesses access to shared intelligence and tools to tackle shoplifting, antisocial behaviour, and persistent offenders.

Application to Boscombe Town Fund – permanent festoon lighting 
Coastal BID submitted an application to the Boscombe Town Fund to install permanent festoon lighting across key areas. The warm lighting design improves visibility, enhances safety after dark and contributes to a welcoming night-time atmosphere. 

Environmental improvements supporting safety 

Cleaner streets, improved lighting proposals and well-maintained public spaces all contribute to a safer, more comfortable experience during both day and night.

A great high street is one people want to spend time in. We invest in keeping the area attractive, colourful and well-maintained:

 

Street cleaning initiatives 
Coastal BID supports enhanced street cleaning in Boscombe, helping to maintain a cleaner, more welcoming public realm for businesses, residents and visitors. 

Bins and planters across the district 
We provide and maintain bins and planters throughout Boscombe, improving cleanliness while adding greenery and visual appeal to key streets and public spaces. 

Additional planters installed 
Four additional planters have been installed to soften the streetscape, improve environmental quality and contribute to a more attractive town centre. 

Removal of talking bins 
Following feedback from businesses and the community, Coastal BID supported the removal of talking bins to improve the everyday street environment and visitor experience. 

Illuminations including Christmas lights in the Sovereign Centre and over 20 Valentine’s love hearts on the High Street, transforming the area during key seasonal moments.

Festoon lighting along the High Street, creating warm ambience, supporting night-time trade and making the street feel more inviting.

Improvements to St Michael’s Underpass, brightening an important pedestrian gateway and making it feel safer and more appealing.

We supported Bournemouth Emerging Arts Fringe, a local emerging arts organisation, providing opportunities for new talent and strengthening Boscombe’s creative ecosystem. 

‘May the 4th Be With You’ events, adding a playful and memorable themed experience for families and fans.

Easter Bunny promotion, with over 100 shops taking part, driving families across the entire BID area as part of a fun, interactive trail.

Boscombe ‘Motors by the Sea’, attracting more than 150,000 visitors and generating significant footfall for local businesses.

Halloween in Boscombe, creating a lively seasonal programme that encourages repeat visits.

Summer Street Sessions 
Coastal BID delivers Summer Street Sessions, bringing live music and performance into public spaces to animate the high street and support local businesses during peak months. 

We Are Boscombe event 
A flagship community celebration showcasing Boscombe’s creativity, culture and independent businesses, bringing residents and visitors together. 

Windrush Celebration 
Coastal BID supported Windrush celebrations, recognising Boscombe’s cultural diversity and heritage through community-led events. 

Chinese New Year celebrations 
We have supported Chinese New Year events in Boscombe, adding to the area’s cultural calendar and attracting new audiences. 

Jazz By the Sea, drawing crowds of over 5,000 people and bringing live music and atmosphere to the area.

Boscombe Market, continuing to welcome 20,000+ visitors annually, cementing its role as a vibrant hub for local traders.

Boscombe High Street wall mural by Tech Moon, a visually striking installation reaching 13,000 online views and boosting the town’s creative reputation.

Flags of Hope, a powerful public art installation that gained national coverage and positioned Boscombe as a place of community expression and pride.

Inflatable monsters – Coastal BID Critters 
The Coastal BID Critters (inflatable monsters) were introduced as playful, eye-catching installations, creating shareable moments, increasing footfall and reinforcing Boscombe’s creative character. 

Flags along the high street 
High street flag installations enhance visual identity, improve wayfinding and create a stronger sense of place throughout Boscombe. 

Globe Theatre performance of Othello 
Coastal BID supported the Globe Theatre’s performance of Othello on the roof of the Sovereign Centre — a bold, high-profile cultural moment that brought national attention to Boscombe. 

Tech Moon investment – £130,000 
Coastal BID supported the Tech Moon project, with £130,000 of investment helping drive innovation, creative technology and economic growth in the area.
